04/15 Deadline: Summer Youth Employment Program and Scholarship Opportunities

If you know a youth between the age of 14-24 and is interested in working during the summer, please share this email and the attachments with them.  Please support our youth by assisting them with completing the attached or online application and submitting it by the deadline date.

Youths that are selected for a SYEP position and are under the age of 18 (as of July 1, 2016), must apply for their working papers or submit their most current employment certificate for a new one.  Working papers can be obtained through any New York City Public High School or Family Leadership Support Coordinator’s office when schools are not in session.

 Obtaining a Your Working Papers

Students residing in the District 23 School Community (Ocean Hill-Brownsville) submit their application for employment certificate (see attached), signed by their parent or guardian to and the following required documents to:  Ms. Page Best Hardy, Family Leadership Support Coordinator on M-F, between the hours of 3:30pm – 5:30pm at 1665 St. Marks Avenue, Room 122, Brooklyn, NY 11233.  Students must bring the following required documents.  If you need additional information or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact me at 718-240-3651.

Required Documents – (copies are acceptable)

U.S. Citizens

  1. 1. Application for Employment Certificate
  2. 2. Social Security Card
  3. 3. Birth Certificate or valid U.S. Passport
  4. 4. A Doctor’s Note certifying that the student is physically fit to work
  5. 5. Photo Identification (school or NYS Identification or NYCID)
  6. 6. HS Diploma (for students who completed HS under the age of 18)

Non Citizens

  1. 1. Application for Employment Certificate
  2. 2. Social Security Card: If marked not valid for work, the student must bring in the INS card.
  3. 3. Birth Certificate or valid U.S. Passport, A foreign Passport with a U.S. visa stamp (if not in     English a certified translation must be attached), Citizenship or Naturalization papers.
  4. A Doctor’s Note certifying that the student is physically fit to work
  5. 5. Photo Identification (school or NYS Identification)
  6. 6. HS Diploma (for students who completed HS under the age of 18)

NOTE: Employment Certificates Will Not Be Issued Until the Child is 14 years old.
