The American Association of Blacks in Energy, NY Metro Chapter (AABE-NYMAC) is proud to announce the 2018 Summer Energy Academy hosted by Bedford Academy. The SEA Program consists of an interactive curriculum of presentations, mathematics enrichment, field trips and a research project focusing on sustainable energy. Over six weeks, students will discover ways to reduce their own and New York City’s energy consumption while applying their knowledge and research to various projects.


SEA students (grades 6-9) are selected based on a review of their academics, state exam scores, a brief essay and interview. 


There is no cost to attend the Academy with the exception of a $350 registration fee once the student is accepted into the program.

Washington’s Birthday (Presidents’ Day) Information

Monday, February 19 is Washington’s Birthday (Presidents’ Day). Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are closed. Courts are also closed.
NYC public schools are closed for Midwinter Recess from February 16 through February 23. Schools will reopen on Monday, February 26. The Department of Education Parent Support Hotline and Family Welcome Centers are closed on February 16 as well as on February 19.
CUNY Colleges are closed. There is no regular mail delivery.
Alternate side parking regulations are suspended. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.
There is no garbage, recycling, or organics collection. If Monday is your regular collection day, put your items out after 4 PM Monday evening. Your items will be collected beginning Tuesday, February 20.
All branches of the City’s public library systems are closed.
Staten Island Ferry service runs on a holiday schedule. Service will be provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight. There will be no lower level boarding in St. George Terminal.
