Red Hook on the Road: Free Job Training and Job Placement

Want an excellent job as a professional commercial driver?

We are a FREE CDL training program that helps NYC residents take advantage of the many growing career opportunities in the field of commercial driving.

We will prepare you for a career as a professional bus or truck driver. In 4 weeks, you will receive all the instruction needed to pass the written and road test for a “Class B/BPS” commercial driver’s license issued by the NYS DMV. After you pass the road test, we will assist you with job placement in order to put your new skills to use.

To be eligible, you must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • 21 years of age – Able to speak, read, and write in English
  • valid NY State driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years
  • No more than 4 points, no more than 2 convictions and/or 1 suspension is allowed on your DMV abstract
  • No SUSPENSIONS WITHIN PAST 2 YEARS – ABSOLUTELY NO DWI OR DUI CONVICTIONS
  • Live in a low-income household
  • Able to attend 4 weeks of UNPAID training from Monday-Friday 8AM to 4:30PM
  • Be drug-free and pass a drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States

Deadline Extended (10/20) for of Work, Learn, Grow Youth Employment Applications

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) has extended its deadline for online applications to this year’s iteration of Work, Learn, Grow (WLG), the Council’s year-round youth employment initiative. Youth applications are now due by Friday, October 20, 2017, and we encourage all Council Members to reach out to eligible constituents. As a reminder, eligible applicants must:

  • Be 2017 participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP);
  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21; and
  • Currently be enrolled in school.
