Deadline Extended (10/20) for of Work, Learn, Grow Youth Employment Applications

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) has extended its deadline for online applications to this year’s iteration of Work, Learn, Grow (WLG), the Council’s year-round youth employment initiative. Youth applications are now due by Friday, October 20, 2017, and we encourage all Council Members to reach out to eligible constituents. As a reminder, eligible applicants must:

  • Be 2017 participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP);
  • Be between the ages of 16 and 21; and
  • Currently be enrolled in school.

Employment: Target is Hiring

Target is hiring team members across all its stores, including the Atlantic Terminal Mall.

In addition, next month, Target will be hosting its second annual seasonal hiring event from Friday, October 13th to Sunday, October 15th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at each of its locations. During the event, candidates can stop in for on-site interviews for store positions with the opportunity to get a conditional job offer on the spot.

Employment: Executive for Racial Justice

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Executive for Racial Justice gives leadership to the organization of United Methodist Women – in the area of racial justice and institutional racism through programs, policies and action models. This position resources United Methodist Women in the implementation of the Charter for Racial Justice Policies of the United Methodist Church.  This position leads the work of implementing the priority issue of Criminalization of Communities of Color, focusing on Ending School-to-Prison Pipeline.  This position engages in this work by relating to relevant partners within the United Methodist Church, ecumenical partners and coalitions working in the area of racial justice and diversity work.

We are recruiting for both of our signature corps: the Love Where You Live Corps, which trains Corps Members for jobs related to sustainable buildings and communities; and the Urban Farm Corps which trains Corps Members for jobs related to sustainable agriculture. All Corps Members are enrolled in AmeriCorps, and have access as Corps Members and graduates to our full suite of wrap-around services, including career counseling and professional development, and on-site social workers.

 

To be eligible, applicants must

  • Be 18-24 years old
  • Live in a NYCHA development
  • Have a high school diploma or GED

 

In addition to referring applicants to us, partners can share the flyer with their listservs, post the flyers in their offices and centers, and help spread the word on social media. If the council member has any upcoming community meetings, that would also be an amazing opportunity to spread the word.
