Parenting Workshop



BROOKLYN, NY — New York City Council Member Laurie A. Cumbo will present tonight, a public panel discussion for ONE CROWN HEIGHTS, a cross-cultural project intended to increase community bonds, mobilize positive behavior and create opportunities for the Black, Caribbean, Jewish and newer residents to work towards One Crown Heights. Community leaders will discuss their reflections and connections to Crown Heights. Tonight’s panel discussion is part of a larger project funded by the City Council to support a series of community conversations, special events, and the creation of a mural that promotes diversity and unity.

The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District proudly presents a “Gospel, R&B Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremony” scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2015.  With the help of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, the NYC Department of Small Business Services and Councilman Robert Cornegy, Jr., the event will be held at Restoration’s West Plaza, located at 1368 Fulton Street, in Brooklyn, New York from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

The free celebration will include live performances by the Grammy-Award Winning Jeff Redd who celebrates over 27 years of music and entertainment as well as the Hanifah Youth Choir of Bridge Street AME Church.  The Antioch Baptist Church Adult Choir which just released their first single, titled “The Blood” will minister in praise and worship.  The entertainment will continue with additional performances by the Youth Arts Academy of the Center for Arts and Culture at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and the legendary DJ, Hard-Hitting Harry and the Haitian All StarZ.

This year’s event proudly celebrates the youth of the community and will provide an atmosphere of fun and fellowship.  The tree has been provided by Deborah Young of Seasons and stands 24-feet tall.   Illuminations by Arnold will provide the decorations, also courtesy of the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID.

The annual event is sponsored by local Bed-Stuy businesses such as TD Bank, Super Foodtown and Applebee’s, with more to be announced.  Local business will provide youth with special holiday treats, giveaways and photographs with the amazing Santa Claus, while supplies last.

“The ceremony is a way for us to say thank you to our community for making Bed-Stuy one of the greatest communities in the world to live, work, shop, and play.   We are also becoming a mecca for arts, culture and tourism and we want to celebrate that as well, “stated Michael Lambert, Executive Director for the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID.

Teens Helping Each Other presents A Teen Town Hall Meeting: Getting to Zero #Get Yo LYFE (Let Your Future Exist), a World AIDS Day 2015 Event. Come out for a night of honest discussion about teen sexual health. Free open HIV/STD testing beginning at 4:30 PM.

The event will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 5:30 at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Health Science Education Building 395 Lenox Road (between E. 34th Street and New York Avenue). Brooklyn, NY. There will also be a spoken word session.
