In order to better serve New Yorkers in need, the Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration is making the SNAP (commonly called Food Stamps) application process even easier by eliminating appointment interviews by telephone for NEW applicants.
Beginning September 1, 2017, clients will no longer have to wait for HRA to call during a scheduled appointment time to complete the interview portion of their NEW application. After they submit their application, clients will be able to call HRA’s call center 718-SNAP-NOW (718-762-7669) at any time during business hours from 8:30am – 5:00pm, Monday-Friday for an “on-demand” interview.
“On-demand” interviews will reduce the uncertainty of applying for SNAP, and will give clients more freedom and flexibility. We will do our best to spread the word about this exciting program, but we need your help. If you work with New Yorkers who qualify for SNAP benefits and are served by the Fort Greene (S20), Williamsburg (S21), or North Brooklyn (S26) SNAP Centers, or live in any of the below zip codes, be sure that they know about this option.

On-demand interviews are one of a series of improvements we are making at HRA to ensure clients can access our services quickly and easily.
In addition, I am also pleased to inform you that HRA has created a new, user-friendly online case management tool called ACCESS HRA. Our new ACCESS HRA website and mobile app (available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play store) allow new and existing HRA clients to:
Should any of your clients or constituents have any questions about SNAP On-Demand or where to apply for SNAP benefits, please visit our website or call the Department of Social Services Infoline at (718) 557-1399.
HRA depends on our partners in the community to help share this important information with the New Yorkers we both serve. Thank you for helping make this program a success.
