Brooklyn Jobs Corps Academy

Brooklyn Jobs Corps Academy is a non-residential training program operated by RedCare and funded by the Dept. of Labor. The Brooklyn Job Corps Academy offers career-readiness preparation, employment training, and hands on experience. Programs offered include security officer, culinary arts, A+ certification, network plus, certified nursing assistance, home health aide, certified medical assistant. All programs with the exception of culinary arts and security officer require a high school diploma or GED before entrance into the program. You must be able to attend classes from 8 AM to 4:40 PM Monday through Friday. To be eligible, you must have no felonies or criminal court cases.

You must be 18-24 years old to participate. No student loans are required. Free metro cards are offered daily, there is a biweekly cash allowance, $1000 for completing training, job placement after training, small group tutoring, free industry specific uniforms, free breakfast and lunch.

  • Strong community relations experience, especially in areas of need.
  • Master’s Degree in social sciences or related field required.
  • Ability or willingness to work on weekends or evenings.
  • Competent in Microsoft word, excel, power point and Internet skills.
  • Bilingual- Spanish preferred.

Employment: Security Officer

SUMMARY

NMIC’s Security Officer secures premises and monitoring personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; patrolling building, equipment, and access points for nine-story office building in Washington Heights; permitting entry.

QUALIFICATIONS
HS or GED with 2(+) years as a security officer (preferably in a building setting).
NYS Security Officer certification/license is required and must be maintained with no exceptions.
Must be at least 21 years old with the ability to work in the United States.
Able to pass a criminal background check.
Bilingual skills in Spanish/English required as well as proficiency with written English. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Certification in any of the following is a plus:
First-Aid/CPR/AED (American Heart Association/ American Red Cross)
Chemical Agent Certification (Hand-Held)
Expandable Baton Certification
Ability to meet and greet general public and maintain poise and self-control under stress.
