2/22 Event: BIG Blackbirds Basketball + Summer Camp Open House

This Thursday at the Steinberg Wellness Center (161 Ashland Place) is the biggest game of the LIU Men’s basketball season; at 7pm the Blackbirds face arch-rival St. Francis Brooklyn. At stake: a trip to the Northeast Conference playoffs. This is a do-or-die game, and we need ALL our fans to come out and support the Blackbirds!

We have our final men’s game of the regular season on Saturday, February 24th—2pm against Sacred Heart.

Please feel free to join us for any of these games; just bring a copy of the attached flyer to the Will Call table in the lobby of the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Also on Saturday, The Children’s Academy has the second of three open houses for our summer camp. Please join us from 11am – 1pm on the LIU Brooklyn campus to meet summer camp staff and take a tour of our facilities.

Faculty will be on hand to discuss our six-week summer day camp offerings that include architecture, capoeira, cartooning, chess, Chinese, circus arts, hip-hop, karate, moviemaking, origami, product design, Spanish, theater arts, swimming and yoga as well as week-long Blackbird Sports Camps in baseball, basketball, flag football fitness, soccer and swimming.

2/25 Event: LIU Brooklyn Summer Camp Open House


With Brooklyn’s best summer camp and Saturday classes for children ages 3 to 12, whatever your child’s interests, they’ll find them at The Children’s Academy.

On Saturday, February 25th from 11am to 1pm come to an open house on the LIU Brooklyn campus to meet summer camp staff and take a tour of our exceptional facilities.

Faculty will be on hand to discuss our six-week summer day camp offerings that include architecture, chess, circus arts, hip-hop, karate, origami, and theater arts as well as week-long Blackbird Sports Camps in baseball, basketball, fitness, flag football, soccer and swimming in Brooklyn’s best pool!

Starting on Saturday, March 11th we will also offer five-week classes in flag football, gymnastics, LEGO Mindstorms, Mandarin Chinese and yoga.

Summer 2016 Blackbird Sports Camps

LIU_Summer_Camp_2016This summer Blackbird Sports Camps begin a third season at Long Island University’s downtown Brooklyn campus. Boasting our borough’s best NCAA Division I athletics facilities and staffed by LIU coaches and athletes, Blackbird Sports Camps include one-week camps in baseball, basketball, soccer, strength + conditioning and swimming that offer young athletes aged 7 to 14 the opportunity to excel in specific athletic pursuits.

With drop-offs as early as 8:30am and pick up as late as 3:30pm—as well as an option for extended hours—Blackbird Sports Camps take place entirely on LIU’s athletic facilities.


Baseball: June 27 – July 1; Basketball: August 15 – 19; Soccer: July 25 – 29; Strength and Conditioning: July 11 -15; Swimming: August 15 – 19.

Pride and Gender: A Film Conversation celebrates LGBT Month with an amazing line up of films and special guests. The evening features the premiere screening of director Seyi Adebanjo’s film Oya: Something Happened on the Way to West Africa! Oya follows the filmmaker’s journey as a queer gender non-conforming Nigerian who connects with Òrìṣà tradition and the powerful legacy of their great grandmother, Chief Moloran Ìyá Ọlọ́ya. This documentary is lyrical, interwoven with cultural nuances, ritual, interviews, chanting and narration.
