This Thursday at the Steinberg Wellness Center (161 Ashland Place) is the biggest game of the LIU Men’s basketball season; at 7pm the Blackbirds face arch-rival St. Francis Brooklyn. At stake: a trip to the Northeast Conference playoffs. This is a do-or-die game, and we need ALL our fans to come out and support the Blackbirds!

We have our final men’s game of the regular season on Saturday, February 24th—2pm against Sacred Heart.

Please feel free to join us for any of these games; just bring a copy of the attached flyer to the Will Call table in the lobby of the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Also on Saturday, The Children’s Academy has the second of three open houses for our summer camp. Please join us from 11am – 1pm on the LIU Brooklyn campus to meet summer camp staff and take a tour of our facilities.

Faculty will be on hand to discuss our six-week summer day camp offerings that include architecture, capoeira, cartooning, chess, Chinese, circus arts, hip-hop, karate, moviemaking, origami, product design, Spanish, theater arts, swimming and yoga as well as week-long Blackbird Sports Camps in baseball, basketball, flag football fitness, soccer and swimming.

Register for Noel Pointer Foundation Programs 2015-2016!

Registration is Open for the Noel Pointer Foundation Fall 2015 – Spring 2016 Programs!

The school year is starting again, and so are NPF’s 2015-2016 programs! Registration for all of our programs is open and available online. We will be hosting an Open House at NPF on September 12th, from 10am-12pm. Come visit us, meet our staff and teachers, and find out more about our programs!

The Noel Pointer Foundation is excited to announce a new program this year. We will be offering Parent & Me Classes for children ages 3-4 to learn violin alongside a parent or guardian. Classes will be held on Saturdays, 8:30-9:00am. This program is a wonderful chance to give young children a life-long love of music, and to build the bond between you and your child through learning the violin!

We also provide private lessons, group classes, and ensemble training to students of all ages and ability on the violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, and piano. Click here to register for:

  • Roots I (Beginner 1) – group classes and partner lessons for beginner students.
  • Roots II (Beginner 2) – group classes and partner lessons for advanced-beginner students.
  • Debut Ensemble (Beginning Ensemble) – beginner-level ensemble classes and private lessons for advanced-beginner students.
  • Prelude Ensemble (Intermediate Ensemble) – intermediate-level ensemble classes and private lessons for students with intermediate-level experience. Audition only.
  • Guitar Repertoire and Musicianship – group classes and partner lessons for beginner students.
  • Piano – private lessons for students of any age or experience level.
  • Youth Orchestra – audition-only advanced orchestra for advanced-level students.

In addition to programs for students, we are also continuing into our second year NPF’s Parent Orchestra. This group is for any parents to learn an instrument along-side their children from a beginner level. We encourage parents to join this orchestra to understand the instruments their children are learning in order to help them improve.
