2/22 Event: BIG Blackbirds Basketball + Summer Camp Open House

This Thursday at the Steinberg Wellness Center (161 Ashland Place) is the biggest game of the LIU Men’s basketball season; at 7pm the Blackbirds face arch-rival St. Francis Brooklyn. At stake: a trip to the Northeast Conference playoffs. This is a do-or-die game, and we need ALL our fans to come out and support the Blackbirds!

We have our final men’s game of the regular season on Saturday, February 24th—2pm against Sacred Heart.

Please feel free to join us for any of these games; just bring a copy of the attached flyer to the Will Call table in the lobby of the Steinberg Wellness Center.

Also on Saturday, The Children’s Academy has the second of three open houses for our summer camp. Please join us from 11am – 1pm on the LIU Brooklyn campus to meet summer camp staff and take a tour of our facilities.

Faculty will be on hand to discuss our six-week summer day camp offerings that include architecture, capoeira, cartooning, chess, Chinese, circus arts, hip-hop, karate, moviemaking, origami, product design, Spanish, theater arts, swimming and yoga as well as week-long Blackbird Sports Camps in baseball, basketball, flag football fitness, soccer and swimming.

2/25 Event: LIU Brooklyn Summer Camp Open House


With Brooklyn’s best summer camp and Saturday classes for children ages 3 to 12, whatever your child’s interests, they’ll find them at The Children’s Academy.

On Saturday, February 25th from 11am to 1pm come to an open house on the LIU Brooklyn campus to meet summer camp staff and take a tour of our exceptional facilities.

Faculty will be on hand to discuss our six-week summer day camp offerings that include architecture, chess, circus arts, hip-hop, karate, origami, and theater arts as well as week-long Blackbird Sports Camps in baseball, basketball, fitness, flag football, soccer and swimming in Brooklyn’s best pool!

Starting on Saturday, March 11th we will also offer five-week classes in flag football, gymnastics, LEGO Mindstorms, Mandarin Chinese and yoga.

From the comfort of your home, you can join the Science Pathfinder’s Summer Camp at no-cost. Register to receive an email with the link for a website to view the “live” video broadcast that starts on Thursday, June 30th at 9:30am and continues until 4pm. There will be a 1-hour lunch break and the video recording will be available for future playback. The course continues for two more days on Friday, July 1st and Tuesday, July 5th.

Apply 4/19: FREE Summer Camp for Grades 1-6

Interested in summer camp for children in grades 1-6? The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has opened registration for its free summer program offering educator-led activities exploring art, culture, science and math at at PS 189, The Bilingual School, located at 1100 East New York Avenue Brooklyn, NY. Students are served breakfast and lunch, and can look forward to field trips throughout the summer. The Museum has 80 slots to offer families, who will be selected through a lottery. The registration forms and application materials can be downloaded at http://www.brooklynkids.org/summer-camp/. Deadline is April 19th!

To be entered in the lottery, interested families should complete the registration forms and return them to Brooklyn Children’s Museum at 145 Brooklyn Avenue or to the Main Office at PS 189, 1100 East New York Avenue. Only fully completed forms will be considered. Families will be notified the week of May 9th regarding acceptances and waitlists.

(6/15 deadline): Girls Take the Lead! Summer Camp

Girls deserve opportunities to grow in girl-friendly spaces that will support them to embark on their own journeys and be leaders in any path they choose!  The summer camp program is designed for young ladies entering the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade in September.

During Summer Camp, we will explore the theme: “Girls Take the Lead.” Girls will do this in a positive, supportive, and safe environment. They will participate in playing collaborative team sports, getting their hands dirty while gardening, creating art and music, designing their own web sites, sharing a girl-friendly space with other girls, learning about positive body image and self-esteem, learning about self-defense and becoming strong, smart and bold leaders!

For four days a week (Monday – Thursday 9:00-4:00pm) girls will be placed in fun activities and participate in weekly field trips, including service learning projects. In order to participate and be accepted into this free program, the participant must:

  • Complete and return the attached application – deadline June 15, 2015
  • Parent and child must attend a Summer Camp Orientation on Thursday, July 3rd from 5:00-6:30pm
  • be able to attend program – The program begins on July 6th, 2015 and ends on July 30th.

This summer your daughter can join us for our Its’ A Girl Thing Summer Camp where she will discover her strong, smart, and bold self!

  • Spaces will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Deadline to submit application is June 15th.
