Time is running out! Anyone seeking coverage under the Loft Law must file an application with the Loft Board on or before June 15th. Owners seeking coverage must file registration applications. The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District proudly presents a โGospel, R&B Christmas Tree-Lighting Ceremonyโ scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2015.ย With the help of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, the NYC Department of Small Business Services and Councilman Robert Cornegy, Jr., the event will be held at Restorationโs West Plaza, located at 1368 Fulton Street, in Brooklyn, New York from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The free celebration will include live performances by the Grammy-Award Winning Jeff Redd who celebrates over 27 years of music and entertainment as well as the Hanifah Youth Choir of Bridge Street AME Church.ย The Antioch Baptist Church Adult Choir which just released their first single, titled โThe Bloodโ will minister in praise and worship.ย The entertainment will continue with additional performances by the Youth Arts Academy of the Center for Arts and Culture at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation and the legendary DJ, Hard-Hitting Harry and the Haitian All StarZ.
This yearโs event proudly celebrates the youth of the community and will provide an atmosphere of fun and fellowship.ย The tree has been provided by Deborah Young of Seasons and stands 24-feet tall.ย ย Illuminations by Arnold will provide the decorations, also courtesy of the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID.
The annual event is sponsored by local Bed-Stuy businesses such as TD Bank, Super Foodtown and Applebeeโs, with more to be announced.ย Local business will provide youth with special holiday treats, giveaways and photographs with the amazing Santa Claus, while supplies last.
โThe ceremony is a way for us to say thank you to our community for making Bed-Stuy one of the greatest communities in the world to live, work, shop, and play.ย ย We are also becoming a mecca for arts, culture and tourism and we want to celebrate that as well, โstated Michael Lambert, Executive Director for the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID.

No heat? No hot water?
As mandated by NYC, building owners are legally required to provide heat and hot water to their tenants. Hot water must be provided 365 days per year at a constant minimum temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat must be provided between October 1st and May 31st, i.e. “Heat Season,” under the following conditions:
If you see or experience any heat or hot water violations, HPD can seek the following penalties and fees:
- $250-$500 dollars per day for each initial heat or hot water violation
- $500-$1,000 per day for each subsequent violation at the same building during the same and/or the next calendar year from the initial violation or, in the case of ยง 27-2029(a), during the same and/or the next heat season.
Report a heat or hot water problem that’s affecting an entire residential building
Report a heat or hot water problem that’s affecting a single apartment
Report no heat in a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) apartment
Report no heat in a commercial or other non-residential building
